On saturday, I was packing my stuff, and I was helping my roommate to pack her furnitures and her books.  At that time, we need boxes for packing, and we had to go to grocery shopping.  So we went to Kroger.  By going there, we passed my stragers, but they were saying to us “hello” or starting talking.  I thought this is culture, so I said that American culture is really friendly.  My roommate was laughing and asked to me “have you ever heard saying “Hello” from girls?”  After that, I noticed that I’ve never heard saying hello from girls.  My roommate said if man say hello to you, he wants to talk with you.  That is not culture.  At that time, that was really funny.  She said man makes sounds, if he wants to talk with a girl, in Peru.  She went there, and she heard that sounds, but she ignored.  Although I’ve never heard that sound, I don’t want to hear that.

Best wishes for all…

Speaking Reflection HW

I can’t be vegetarian, as you know, I love meat, pork, and chicken.  But I like animals.  Anyway It doesn’t matter to me.  It is different between pet and eating meat.  And I can’t eat dog……. Don’t worry :)

I went to Cary town on Saturday. After I finished my errands I went to coffee shop. I met Ron who is an old man and lives in near the Cary town. He asked to me if I am Korean. I really surprised because most Americans do not know I am a Korean before I tell my name to them. We started to talk. At that time, he was having brunch. He said to me that he is a vegetarian and he explained why he is a vegetarian. First of all, he loves animals. He said that eating meat is like eating friends. I could understand him. I have a dog which is one of my family members. In South Korea, many people eat dogs in summer time. At that time, I could not understand them well. Another reason is that he doesn’t like smell of meat. When he talked about that, I couldn’t stop thinking about our classmate Jihye, because her favorite food is meat. I saw her to eat meat at least 5 plates. I thought that I will ask to Jihye what she thinks about vegetarians and eating meat.  Anyway, he recommended to me vegetarian sandwich. It was really delicious. I didn’t know that sandwich can be delicious without chicken. I was so glad to meet him.

On Saturday, I went to Northern Virginia with my roommate.  I remain only 2 weeks befor I leaving.  So I want to say goodbye to my roommate’s family.  Anyway, when we arrived her house, her brother was walking with his dog.  We wanted to walk together.  By walking together, I was talking with her brother.  He is 18, but he already entered colleage, and he said he is taking classes.  I was confused a lot.  Becase, in Korea, we enter a university when we are 19.  But he is sophomore.  So I asked when did you start to go school at first.  We go to school at 7 except preschool.  He said he went to school when he was 5.  And semester starts in fall, but, in Korea, our semesters start in spring.  After that, I noticed that my roommate graduated in this summer.  During walking with dog, almost 1 hour, we were talking a lot about differences between Korea and America.  I will miss my roommate’s family after I leaving here.
